    The Cherokee Film Incentive is a cash rebate program offering up to 30% back on qualified spending at Cherokee Film Studios and on wages paid to Cherokee and Native American workers. The rebate applies to eligible production expenses incurred at Cherokee Film Studios, as well as wages paid to Native Americans within the Cherokee Nation reservation and its contiguous counties.

    The purpose of the Cherokee Film Incentive program is to encourage film and television production at our soundstages and to support the hiring of Native Americans in all phases of production, including development, pre-production, production and post-production.

  • Project Budget & Spend

    Pre-application approval is based on anticipated budget and spending. Upon approval of the final application, the rebate claim may not exceed the original potential rebate claim awarded with approval of the initial application. Program rebates only apply to expenses incurred at Cherokee Film Studios and qualified production activities within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation. View the full list of qualifiers here.


  • Proof of Funding

    To qualify for the Cherokee Film Incentive program, projects are required to provide proof of funding of 50% or greater 45 days prior to the start of principal photography. Proof of complete project funding is due 30 days prior to the start of principal photography. Failure to provide documentation may result in preliminary approval being withdrawn. Preliminary estimates (PE) for Cherokee Film Studios must be submitted prior to preliminary approval.

  • Other Incentive Programs

    The Cherokee Film Incentive is available on its own or may be combined with other Oklahoma incentive programs, including the Filmed in Oklahoma Act of 2021 and the Tulsa Film Incentive. The Filmed in Oklahoma Act offers producers a cash rebate up to 30% based on several qualifying uplifts. Please note that each program requires a separate application process.

     

  • Native Wages

    Provide the project number of Native American or Cherokee employees and total salaries in each category. Employees may only be claimed in one category. To claim employment credit, the employee must be a citizen or documented descendant of a federally recognized tribe, and proof must be submitted as part of the final application. Information for all claimed Native cast and crew must include the person’s name, address and copy of tribal registration documentation. View the full list of qualifiers here.
